My thoughts on life, design, and simplicity.

Listen to Yourself

We are programmed from a young age to be quiet, follow the rules and don’t rock the boat. We're told conformity is the key to success. For a lot of us who grew up with this mindset, we almost instinctively look for others with more authority than us to tell us what to do. Not only do we do this in small decisions but even in our most important life decisions as well.

What we don’t learn about is how to actually listen to ourselves and live a life true to us. For creating a life of success comes not through listening to others, but listening to yourself. G. K. Chesterton famously said,

"I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite.”

It feels good to get advice from friends, family, and colleagues but it usually doesn't get us very far. We're much more comfortable complaining and passing blame than taking responsibility for moving forward.

Ultimately the decision about opportunities given is all on you. Listen to your gut and do what you feel is right. No one knows your situation better than you do.
