The Tacoma Art Museum has a long history of serving the  Northwest region. Established in 1935, a lot of great art has pasted through its doors in the last eighty-plus years including medieval illuminated manuscripts, French impressionist paintings, and Renaissance bronze sculptures to name a few.

TAM’s original location was an old bank building constructed in the 1920s. When they started outgrowing that space, they built a new 50,000 square foot building designed by architect Antoine Predock in 2003. In 2014 TAM expanded its floor space with the donation of over 295 works of Western American art by the Haub Family. Most recently in 2016, TAM expanded another 7,390 square feet with the donation of the Rebecca and Jack Benaroya collection including many pieces of glass sculptures and paintings from artists all over the world.

This building has morphed and changed over the years bringing with it much needed historical and cultural significance to the Pudget Sound. I hope it continues for many many more years to come.
