Like it or not, we are living in the golden age of capitalism. This has brought many us many advancements along with consequences into our world. So what is a human to do? Reading Linchpin by Seth Godin is a great place to start. If you have followed the business-marketing world for any length of time, you have probably heard of Seth Godin. He’s an author, entrepreneur, teacher and has one of the most well-known blogs on the internet. With his book Linchpin, he has created a manifesto of sorts for what the future of work and economy looks like for the rest of us.

The storyline goes something like this: Times have changed and our old system is falling apart, yet we are still being trained to play by its rules. We now have a choice, play the same game or play a different one.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Linchpin will help you start playing a different game and win in the economy to come. Seths’ optimistic attitude toward the future economy is inspiring for its sustenance doesn’t lie with CEO’s or politicians, but with us. We have the power to contribute to our world by being so remarkable…we become indispensable.

I agree with Seths' premise -to truly invent, create value, and change in our world, it will take the linchpins, the ones willing to put in the work and make art. It’s been anonymously said, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

In Godin's classic pertinent style, this book has challenged me to face my fears, create my best art, and become indispensable.
