Wald 137 Basket Mounting Options

IMG_2237.jpeg

Wald makes some great baskets and their models 137 & 139 are very popular with bike commuters and tourers. I’ve used both basket models on multiple bikes and love the ability it gives me to haul extra stuff on my bike. While the build construction is solid and the included mounting hardware works great if you don't have a rack, mounting the basket to an existing rack can be challenging. By far the most popular basket to rack mounting method is zip ties, and they work pretty well. I have two big problems with this mounting solution though. One, it doesn't make the basket easily removable. Sure you can cut zip ties off, but you need new zip ties to reinstall it. Second, I was never able to get the rack secure enough to my liking with zip ties. So I started thinking about a different solution, and I finally found one that fits my needs. Hose clamps.

This method checks all of the boxes for me. It’s easy to remove and reinstall, is super simple, and makes the basket rock solid. I use four hose clamps for my basket and added a rubber gasket cut from a blown inner tube to help keep the hose clamp from damaging the rack. I’ve used this mounting solution for years now haven’t had any issues, but your mileage may vary. If you want to try this option for yourself, here are the parts and tools you will need.

1x Scissors or Utility knife
